What Is Freeze-Dried Fruit? How It’s Made

Real fruit. A whole new crunch. Freeze-dried fruit is fruit with most of its water removed after freezing. Under vacuum, ice changes directly into water vapor—a process called sublimation. The result is light, crisp fruit that is ready to eat straight from the pack.

At Snack IQ, we start with ripe fruit and focus on the quality and flavor of the fruit itself. Our snacks are made with 100% real fruit, with no added sugar or artificial ingredients.

How it’s made · Freeze-dried vs. dried · Common questions

How is freeze-dried fruit made?

  1. Prepare and freeze the fruit. Fruit is prepared and frozen so its water becomes ice. Snack IQ starts with ripe fruit for its natural flavor.
  2. Remove ice under vacuum. In a freeze dryer, reduced pressure and controlled heat allow ice to change directly into vapor without first melting into liquid.
  3. Remove remaining moisture. A final drying stage removes more moisture. This is what helps make the fruit light and crisp.
  4. Protect the crunch. The dried fruit is packed to help keep moisture out. Once opened, keeping it dry helps preserve its texture.

Why choose Snack IQ?

Good fruit comes first. We source our fruit from India and select ripe fruit because taste starts with the ingredient. Freeze-drying gives it a different texture while letting its fruit flavor shine.

  • 100% real fruit: a straightforward snack with familiar ingredients.
  • No added sugar: sweetness comes from the fruit itself.
  • A satisfying crunch: light and crisp, rather than chewy.
  • Single-serve convenience: easy to pack for lunchboxes, workdays and travel.

Questions about freeze-dried fruit

Is freeze-dried fruit real fruit?

Yes. Freeze-drying is a way of removing water from fruit. Snack IQ snacks are made with 100% real fruit.

Does freeze-dried fruit contain sugar?

Fruit naturally contains sugar. Snack IQ adds no sugar, but “no added sugar” does not mean sugar-free. Check each pack’s nutrition label for the serving size and sugar content.

Why is it crunchy?

Removing most of the water leaves a dry, porous structure. That gives freeze-dried fruit its light, crisp bite.

How should I store it?

Keep unopened packs in a cool, dry place and follow the date and storage instructions on the packaging. After opening, keep the fruit tightly sealed and protected from humidity; moisture can soften the crunch.

Do I need to add water before eating it?

No. Snack IQ fruit snacks are ready to eat straight from the pack.
